Summerville Union High School is known for not only excellent academics and striving athletics, but also the wonder visual and performing arts bring to the community. Throughout the school year, we hold many plays and this year we are hosting the play called “Harvey.”

“Harvey” is a musical comedy that revolves around an imaginary white rabbit, named Harvey, who is the friend to a man who goes by the name of Elwood P. Dowd. Commotion rumbles around the town as many are concerned for this grown man and his connection with an animal only he sees. Harvey explores the importance of imagination. This play has been on broadway and the Summerville High theater program is thrilled to be producing it as well.

Senior Kylie Carr is excited about this specific cast in this year’s play.

“This show has a variety of different people, we have McCormic who is a football player, and we have someone that I personally have never seen on stage” she stated, “but all in all we’re a really good group just some new faces to the theater which is great”

This is Kylie Carr’s ninth play and she has the role of Betty Chumley, Dr. Chumley’s wife.

New faces in the acting industry here at Summerville are exciting as well. Senior McCormic Banks, former football player at Summerville, is a new face up on the stage. Banks shared what motivated him to come out and audition.

“I just thought it would be fun to try something new and something out of my comfort zone. It is definitely different than anything I’ve ever done before and I don’t know if it has come natural or not” he said, “I can’t really tell how I’m doing, so you will just have to come to the play to find out.”

McCormic Banks, former football player for the Summerville High Varsity team, smiles into the camera as he goes over his lines. He will play the role of Dr. Chumley.
